In a moment of raw vulnerability and heartfelt gratitude, Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, Onyi Basil, has sent an emotional video message from Thailand, making a passionate appeal to her nation for support as she navigates the intense pressures of the ongoing Miss Universe competition.
The video, which serves as both a thank you and an urgent call to action, strips away the glamorous facade of pageantry to reveal the human heart of a competitor who has poured everything into representing her country.
“Hello, Universe! Hello, Nigeria!” she began, her voice brimming with sincerity. “The last time I did a video like this was before I won Miss Universe Nigeria… I am back here again to say thank you so much for the love, thank you so much for the support, thank you so much for voting for me.”
But as the message continued, Basil’s tone shifted, giving a rare and honest glimpse into the emotional toll of competing on the world’s most demanding pageant stage.
“It’s not easy competing on an international platform,” she confessed, “and it would just help me feel much more motivated to know that I am supported and loved by the people that I am representing.”

This is the core of her plea: the need to feel the strength of her nation behind her as she stands alone on the international stage. The message became even more poignant as she reflected on the immense personal sacrifice and effort she had invested.
“I worked so, so hard, you guys,” Onyi stressed, her emotion palpable. “I genuinely worked so hard, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you could support me and vote through the Miss Universe app.”
The appeal is both emotional and highly strategic. Basil reminded her supporters that the public vote is not just for morale; it is a critical component of the competition that could directly secure her future in the pageant.
“Voting ends on the 19th of November, which is the preliminary competition day,” she explained urgently. “10% of the public voting would contribute to the top 30 of the competition. So guys, it’s extremely important.”

This “People’s Choice” vote, facilitated through the Miss Universe app, is a direct pathway to the semi-finals, and Basil is making it clear that she cannot win this battle without her country’s unified support.
As she concluded her message, Basil, a daughter of Nigeria asking her family for one final, unified push. “Keep it coming, keep it strong,” she urged, “and I will continue to put my best at the competition. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you.”
